tea for two

My boyfriend had his birthday yesterday. He's all the way in Taiwan right now for the summer, so I emailed this to him as a gift. This is sort of a gag that pokes fun at our relative sizes - he's around 40cm taller than me!

sketchbook

Some pages from my current sketchbook so far -
Half was studying for Biology, other half done listening to Diablo Swing Orchestra.Based off the vulcan ladies of Odin Sphere.Mugi from K-On! again - I just love her thick eyebrows so much! XD

May-June dump

Gwah! Apologies for disappearing for the past two months. You see, dear China has blocked blogger, and I couldn't figure out how to post with this proxy thing, so I kind of gave up for a bit. But I think it should work now. XD Time to get to spamming the blog with art.

I think I've developed a hobby for making these little greeting cards:
Father's Day card:
Done with gouache. It's so so fun to work with and it's my new favorite traditional media.

I also got myself an account on pixiv so I can indulge in gorgeous Japanese illustration; was then inspired to draw some anime-style pieces and upload some pictures of my own.
Mercedes from Odin Sphere.

My bunnygirl - remember her from here?

Tsumugi, the keyboardist from K-On!.

I think this is the most colorful dump I've made. I'll post something that isn't all happy animals and sparkly girls later in the afternoon. XD

killing one stone with 2 birds

Our English class is making a mix music CD as a little souvenir to celebrate the end of the year. I was asked to do the cover - here it is, and it was loads of fun! The album title is an inside joke.

big cats

I think I'm on an animal kick lately. I'd forgotten how fun they are! Anyway, I'm pretty sure the relative sizes of these cats are off XD; Shall we pretend they exist on seperate planes of reality?

a mother's love, finished

a mother's love

A painting in progress for school - I'm changing my direction a bit, and taking a look at filial cannibalism in hamsters! So far this one is really tough to tackle and I keep on reworking it, reworking all the different parts. I like the visual of the mother hamster literally just STUFFING her own baby into her mouth though. Hope I can make the image work.

Alex and Poon

Around a year ago (wow, has it been that long?) I did the "Danielle" painting based off a stock photo. I wanted to do more portraits (particularly some male ones) but never got around to it! Well, last night I was suddenly filled with the desire to paint. But there are a lot less male stock photos available and I didn't find one that I liked - so... I asked Tiff to send me some photos of our friends and painted them instead! 8D
Not sure if I captured Alex's likeness... but it was still SO fun, and it's just been forever since I've been able to work with this thick, real, touchable paint that gets on my fingers, and sit in my room staying up til 3am, just painting because I feel like it and I love it!

conical red bill

Hello from Vancouver! I am here for this week, for my spring break.

Went to Granville Island today (IlovethatplaceSOmuch) and was totally captivated by all the vintage scrapbooky stuff there. Was inspired to try and emulate some of the stuff there. Drew this cardinal, slapped it on a wallpaper from cgtextures, tried my best to write in an artsy manner, and just played around with it. The effects are from the Photobucket image editor XD It's surprisingly useful! Anyway, I can't tell if these images are of horrible quality or if it's just the screen on this computer. Apologies if they are fuzzy.

posters

Ah, I've been neglecting my poor sketch blog! School's been eating me up. Anyway - lame way to kick off after my long absence, but here are a couple of projects I did for some teachers.

The Roots and Shoots group at school needed some kind of banner designed. Initial design sketches:They liked the first one the most - I modified it for a portrait poster-type banner, and here are the finished banners! Also was asked to come up with a poster for the upcoming art exhibition for the Grade 12 art students. (yes, there are only 5 this year, and yes, those are their gorgeous paintings!) Designing this poster gave me such a huge headache (I did 7 different versions before the teacher gave it the okay) but they all seemed to like how it turned out, so I'm relieved!

girl with the cat eyes

Just doodling, and it somehow turned into Squishy's Branwen on the way. :)

square jaws and a long ponytail

Just some colored lineart doodles:
And a quick drawing of Viletta Nu from Code Geass! I've always adored her design.
