a mother's love, finished

I do really like how this came out in the end. After spending over two weeks on it from start to finish, I feel accomplished! XD

a mother's love

A painting in progress for school - I'm changing my direction a bit, and taking a look at filial cannibalism in hamsters! So far this one is really tough to tackle and I keep on reworking it, reworking all the different parts. I like the visual of the mother hamster literally just STUFFING her own baby into her mouth though. Hope I can make the image work.

Alex and Poon

Around a year ago (wow, has it been that long?) I did the "Danielle" painting based off a stock photo. I wanted to do more portraits (particularly some male ones) but never got around to it! Well, last night I was suddenly filled with the desire to paint. But there are a lot less male stock photos available and I didn't find one that I liked - so... I asked Tiff to send me some photos of our friends and painted them instead! 8D
Not sure if I captured Alex's likeness... but it was still SO fun, and it's just been forever since I've been able to work with this thick, real, touchable paint that gets on my fingers, and sit in my room staying up til 3am, just painting because I feel like it and I love it!

Mother

Two soft pastel drawings in school, still looking at parents' roles in the family.

Dad progress

Worked more on this piece yesterday. Not sure if it's 100% finished yet - I might add a more greyish or reddish tinge to the background, but I think it looks pretty good at the moment too!

Dad

Started another piece for school - still building on the theme of family dynamics. The old man is the little girl's father - I'm trying to show that melancholy feeling you get from watching your parents grow old.

fetuses (blood)

I was thinking about the different stages of life for my art topic for school, and somehow ended up painting these unborn babies.
These next two were done after I had looked up photos, so you can see the difference. As a future warning to anyone who reads this, you do not want to search "fetus" in Google images unless you have a strong tolerance for blood. Trust me. XD;

back to school stuff!

I've been unhappy with anything I've done for art class this whole year so far.. so this semester I'm gonna just PUMP these pieces out and hope something good comes out 8DD I am still very much a beginner in painting... just experimenting with technique and trying to develop a method of doing this right now.

drip drip glub glub

I finished my first large piece for 'Growing up'! This'll be my final piece for this quarter. I'm hardly happy with it, but I don't have time to do a new piece. I'll do a better one next time! *determined arm pump!*
Here's one piece of the large painting the mural painting club has been working on for the past two months:
That's the section our group was working on! :D glub glub

wet hair

Acrylic painting for art class. Really don't like how it's turning out. I should really have used a reference, specially since I stupidly picked an angle I'm unfamilliar with XD;

Jessica finished

I like her original expression more. It somehow morphed into this on its own though. XD

Jessica

The topic I've chosen for my series of works in IB Art is 'Growing Up'. Here's the start of my first piece, just something sort of simple and figurative - my baby sister Jessica! She's 13 months old and growing every day; I thought she would be a perfect subject to start my project with.

Environment prelim. pieces

Our topic for art class was environment. Here are the preliminary, experimental type pieces I did. It feels really good to work with traditional!

Acrylic paint, on a piece of wood broken off a board. Ink wash on watercolor paper.And this last one is a more abstract experiment - sort of was influenced by Judy Watson, who I had to research for a presentation. This one was fun because I had no idea what I was doing and I didn't worry about anything. I just built the texture up with glue, paper and scraps underneath.

School stufffff

A lot has happened in the past 3 weeks. I was in hospital for two weeks. Now, starting next week, I'm moving to Guangzhou and going to a new school.

I haven't touched art much for a while, so am trying to get my momentum back. I feel like I'm a stranger to my own sketchbook! I tried drawing a couple of days ago - 2 hours and many crumpled pages later, I think I am back on the path - but it will probably take me a few more days to really get stuck back into my art!

Well, enough talking. Here's some of that stuff I did at school before I got sick:Observational study of a classmate. That's him twice from different angles. Kieran is such a great model~Quick skeleton drawing. The speech bubble says "Hi guys!" My teacher didn't like it so he covered it up with a classmate's drawing!More skelly stuff, with acrylics. Look at my signature! XD

the big Vancouver art dump

Well, I decided to get off my butt and upload the stuff I did in art camp in July. Pardon the image quality of a lot of these... the pictures don't fit in my scanner, and my camera shots were of less than desirable quality XD;

My bag, done in conte:
Arm and foot studies, drawing from a male nude model. His name was Steve and he was kinda tubby and seemed like a nice guy.
Homework assignment: Design a poster for your own imaginary movie. Mine is an animation film about an octopus mama who needs a chill pill! 8D
Drawings with acrylic paint, done from a female model.
Study of male model's face in acrylics:
Charcoal drawing from a different female model.
Homework - do a portrait of a classmate:
I asked the model to pose for me for this one (I was sitting in a chair propped up above her XD)
There is some other stuff I haven't uploaded as well, but this is most of the better drawings :) That is all. It was a really awesome course!

A birdy in oils

We worked on landscape paintings in art class today... my painting sucked, but I did this fat little birdy after I was done with the landscape 8D
